I hope everyone commited to two minutes silence at 11 am today. I always feel people loose sight of why we do this. People just think it's about all the lives lost during WW1. Ofcourse that is what started it, but it also applies to all the members of our Armed Forces that have given their lives to defend our country, in all the years after that.

Since WW2, there has only been one year that a member of our Armed Forces has not died in action. If all the ones who have died from WW1 until now were to be lined up. That line would run from the Cenotaph in London, all the way to Edinburgh. Thaink about that, think about how many people that would have to be, to make suck a line.

No matter what you political views may be, you cannot deny the sacrifice that our Forces have made, and continue to make on a daily basis. Again, no matter what you political views may be. They do this in your name, for your freedom, for your right to live as you do in a free democracy. Please remember what out Forces do for us, not just today, but every day. Because they do that job every day, for us.

I'll leave you with this little video. Take the time to read the text in the video. It really does describe what being a soldier is like.

You know what it's like, Life tends to get in the way of keeping these things up. So, what have I been up too this last while ?. Well ofcourse there was Rockness, which was brilliant as usual. I didn't take as many pic's as I usually do. Due to the fact that I couldn't find my flipping digital camera prior to going. So, I only had my mobile phone, which can take decent pic's and video. However, the battery doesn't last for four days now does it, . I did manage to get a phone off a friend when my battery eventually died on me though. But, the pic, and vid quality wasn't up to much on that one. Anyway, here are a couple of the vid's I took mashed together.

Cagedbaby

Prodigy (Note poorer quality)

I do have video of Cagedbaby in the SoCo Tent from the Friday night. Unfortunately, I was right next to the speakers, so the sound is all messed up. Which is a great shame, and I should know better. Because the tent was packed out, and the set was brilliant.

I went to EH1, in Edinburgh last weekend. It was the fist time for this event, and was run by Colours, and Streetrave. Great lineup, great choice of music for people to cjeck out. There really was something for everyone there (dance wise I mean). However, the price of booze was shocking !!. As with most festivals, you have to buy drink tokens, then take them to the bar and get your drink. At this one it was £15.00 for 4 tokens, which got you 4 drinks. That works out at £3.75 per drink, some might say that's not bad. The thing is, there were no spirits on sale (something to do with licencing). No pints of beer on sale, which is what you would usually get for a token. Instead you got 1 bottle of an alcopop, or something like 1 bottle of miller, corona for 1 token. That's about half a pint for £3.75. Now, if they have another one next year ?, I won't be going just because of the price of drink. I would go further and recommend that no one goes because of the price of drink.. Compare those prices to the ones at Rockness, Cash bar (much better), £3.45 for a pint of lager, and similer prices for spirits. You could get a pitcher of southern comfort and lemonade for £14. That's about 4 pints of southern comfort .

Also recently had a wee night out at The Arches in Glasgow. I haven't been there for over two years, due to a certain night I had there. Nothing bad, just that a friend was dj-ing there, and they hadn't promoted the night very well. So, there wasn't really many people at it. Too and insult to injury, they didn't even pay said friend, because there weren't many there ffs . That wasn't his fault, it was their's for not promoting the fecking night. Anyway, I went along to this one because I was asked to go by a good friend. It turned out to be quite a good night, but I'll be in no rush to go back there again. The Arches seems to have lost something, don't know what but it's not as good as it used to be. Maybe it's a change in management. Maybe it's just me getting older, maybe it's the crowd. Still plenty of other clubs to hit in Glasgow, so no loss there .

Anyway enough of my galavanting around. Not been up to much really, just the odd bit of work here and there. Nothing much, as I can't do any manual labour as such. It's more like helping than work really. On a personal level, my first wife's husband died recently. Despite our obvious differences, I wouldn't have wished that on her at all. They had been together for over 10 years. He was a good bit older than her, and a decent guy. Fortuantely it was all very quick really. He had liver, lung, and brain cancer. Which only came to light when he went to the doctors complaining of a bit of a sore head and chest. He was gone within 5 weeks of that visit to the doctors.

Not the first time I've seen that happen. A guy I used to work with, who was only 39 years old at the time. Went to the doctors with a bit of a sore chest. Thinking it was muscle related, because of the nature of our job. They had sent him for an exray, and discovered something on his lungs. By the time he was due to go for a further scan two weeks later, he had died.

Takes me back to when my Dad had a brain tumour. He had a stroke, they discovered the tumour, and gave him six months to live. He lasted two and half year after that. That was way back in the early 70's though. Makes you think that these type of cancers are more potent now days. Enough of the doom and gloom me thinks .

Being a staunch SNP supporter, and card carrying memeber of said political party. I'm astonished at the recent decision to release the very man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing. Now, this will have an very bad effect on the SNP chances of getting into Government again. It's been obvious though, that Westminister has been doing dodgy deals behind the Scottish Governments back, just to make them look bad.

Great news that Big Brother won't be on our screens again (for the forseable futire anyway). They say it's because of viewing figures. More like people not phoning in to vote, and them not making money out of that. Hopefully all these other silly reality shows will follow suit. Just watched Celtic get gubbed by Arsenal. Well done to Arsenal, and that's from a Celtic fan. We didn't play well at all, and deserved to get beat. But it's so painfull to watch. Such is the life of a Celtic fan .

I'll leave you with a few movies to watch out for in the future. Sorry if I've posted any of them before.

I'm no fan of the man, but I thimk it's right that he does for the moment. It is no time to be changing Prime Minister, or to have a General Election for that matter. Remember, all these MP's that are resigning are only doing so because they have been caught claiming all sorts on expences. Not because they are dissalusioned with Gordon Brown. Personaly I feel that these MP's, should stand down now, and not at the next General Election. They are only hanging on because they will still their over inflated wages and still able to claim everything they can until they leave the job. Also the golden handshake they get from the public purse.

They are all criminals in my own opinion. If people did what they have done in any other job. They would get the sack, and possible criminal charges. I know they have all said that they have remained within the rules. But that has nothing to do with anything. Surely they know the difference between claiming something that is assisting them perform their MP duties (which is what they are allowed to claim for), and stupid things like sink plugs, gardeners, motes and all the other ridiculous things.

Anyone with an ounce of intelligence would know that it was wrong to claim such things. The other thing that has been grating me about them, is the habit of employing relatives. Doesn't it make you mad ?.

I went around to my local polling station last night to vote in the European Elections. After living in Northern Ireland for fifteen years, somewhere that you must provide I.D, before you are allowed to vote. Having said that, it may have changed in recent years.

I was amazed that I wasn't asked for any identification. So, this means that anyone can go and vote on your behalf. More to the point, anyone can go and vote if they have your polling card. Even worse is the fact that anyone with a counterfiet one can vote, and as many times as they like, (obviously with different peoples cards). They can do this if they have your electrol role number. This can be obtained from any local council.

The whole voting thing is completely open to fraudulant activity by anyone. I'm sure I will come back to that subject in the future.

On an other note. I was very saddened to hear about David Carradine dying the other day. Initial reports had it down as suicide. It know appears he was indulging in some auto-erotic asphyxiation. Which is very sad to hear indeed. I'm all for people endulging in what they want too sexualy, as long as they don't bring to harm to anyone, and it's legal. If anyone is going to take part in any auto-erotic asphyxiation ?. Then they should always do it when someone else is there. It's far too dangerous to be doing on your own.

Onto Big Brother now !!!!

I'm not a fan of this show at all. I only ever dip into it when there is nothing else on the telly. So, there I was watching some of the start of it last night. God almighty, there some bloody idiots out there, and they always seem to get on this show.. These are the worst bunch of freakish, attention seeking, wanna be, idiots that they have found to date. I really don't understand why people enjoy this show. Maybe it's just me, I don't know.

Being Scottish, I hate the fact that they always find the worst sort of Scot possible. This time is no different, with the stupid lassie they have in this year. Nothing but a gold digging numpty, who's only ambition is to hook up with some rich footballer. There isn't a normal person amoung them. They are all freaks in their own way. So please, when it comes to the voting part of the show. Don't vote at all. Even better, don't even watch the show at all. I know I won't !!!!.

Anyway, that's the moan over with for the moment . Hope everyone has a great weekend, rave safe kiddiewinks.

Always great to see loads of people walking about with bright red arms, faces and legs. I do not exlude myself in that by the way. It's a pity it will turn more cloudy tomorrow, but I'm not complaining. It's nearly that time of year again for Rockness. So, I would rather have crappy weather from now until then. It hasn't rained there yet, apart from a little drizzle when the Chemical Brothers played the other year. Apart from that, it's been scorching every year. Yes I always end up sunburnt, but will not let it happen this year (he says, lol).

I was initialy staying in a b & b for the weekend, and going up early on the Friday morning. But, that's all changed now, I am now camping again. I promised myself after last year that I wouldn't camp again (getting too old). I'm gl'd for the weekend, and only found out last week that camping is included. So, it would be rude not to do it. Also heading up for the Thursday night now, just so a few of us can hang out before things kick off on the Friday.

Looks like it's going to be another great weekend by the Loch, partying with 35,000 other music luvin people. I will endevour to take as many pic's / videos as I can, and will upload them when I come back.

Anyway, here's my fav track of the moment. Some great remixes of it out there. Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!

I know people are probably starting to get a bit fed up hearing about all this expences stuff. However, that is just want the powers that be want to happen. We all pay for their lifestyles. They are meant to be 'of, for, and by the people'. That is what a democracy is meant to be about.

It seems that this is not the case in this United Kingdom anymore. Our politicians are supposed to serve us, the people. Instead of serving themselves to every penny they can get their grubby mits on. All legal ofcourse, as they all take these pennies within the rules. Rules that have been created by themselves, for themselves.

I won't go on about all the silly claims that they have put in. Suffice to say, that they are only supposed to claim for things that assist them in serving their constituants. So, you can make your own minds up on what that constututes.

Something else to bare in mind, is the upcoming European elections. That Parliament is far more corrupt than Westminster when it comes to what MEP's can claim for. They don't even have to put in receipts for what they are claiming. Some years ago there was a big who-ha about MEP's expenses. Nothing really came of that episode, and they're still filling their pockets with our money.

So, before you go and vote for your next MEP. See if you can find pout what expenses they have put in for over the last four years. Even over the last year or so will do. I'm sure you will be shocked to find put what these people rake in. It's not as if they really do anything for us anyway is it ?. Apart from mess with our laws, usually in a bad way.

As anyone who's read some of my previous posts will know. I'm not a big fan of our politicians, and what they do (or lack there of) for us. All I can say is, if you're not happy with you MP, MSP, MLA, MEP ?. The write to them and ask them to explain themselves to you. Don't settle for a letter that fobs you off from one of their secretaries. If you're still not happy ?, go and see them at one of their local surgeries, and ask them to their faces to explain themselves. If you're still not happy ?, complain too their party leader.

As usual I got distracted with other things. So, the solicitor, mmmmmmm. Tried to help, but like all solicitors, when it comes to CSA & Family Law. They tend to shy away, make out it's a specialist subject etc. There was me thinking that a solicotor deals with the law, no matter what the subject, lmfao.

Anyway, she is still looking at my paperwork, but I don't hold out much hope for any help. Infact, it seems that it would cost me almost as much as I supposedly owe, to fight just this 'Liability Order'. How mad is that ?. So, it may just turn out that I should let it go through. My only problem with that is that I am a principled sort of guy. This falls into the category, of going agaimst my priciples. By that I mean, being branded a criminal by my Government, with no valid reason. Nuff said me thinks.

Anyway, onto better things. As metioned before. I headed off down to Liverpool for a bit of a mad weekend. Got there on Friday afternoon, and arrived back last night. I went down for 'Circus' nightclub which was held @ 'Nation' in Liverpool. Circus is run by the brilliant Yousef (dj, producer, and all round great guy),

My main reason for going was to see the Southern Fried Records crew. Cagedbaby, Riva Star, Shinichi Osawa, and ofcourse Norman Cook. Suffice to say, I had a blinder of a night on Friday. Saturday was one of those lost days. You know, the ones you get when you were really hammered (in a good way), the night before'. As you can see rom these two clips. Friday was a bit of a messy night

Norman Cook, closing his set.

Now that I am fully recovered from my travels. Time to get back to the daily grind. First off, some shopping I think foooooood now please.

It's at the stage were they have issued an application to the Sheriff's Court, for a 'Liabilty Order' against me. What does that actually mean then ?. Well, it will open up various doors for the CSA to do basically whatever they want to me. Take my driving licence, passport, bailiffs in, even prison. Next year they will even be allowed to do that plus, freeze bank accounts, place a curfew to name but a couple of things. Without even going to court !!!

As I've mentioned in previous posts. I'm all for a 'Non Resident Parent' (NRP), paying for their children. What I'm not in favour of, is it being Government lead. It being used to pay the social security benefits for a 'Parent With Care' (PWC). I use the term 'Parent With Care', in it's loosest possible form . As of 27th of October last year, a PWC, who is on benefits can keep up too £20.00 of any monies paid by the NRP. So, if you are an NRP, paying £200.00 per week. The the PWC still only keeps £20.00 of that. The rest pays for what ever benefit the PWC is on. Obviously it's a different case if the PWC is working full time. They then get too keep all monies paid by the NRP. Which is right, and proper in my eyes .

Anyway, I won't harp on about it too much. As it's a very touchy subject with me, and I'd probably end up all annoyed, and upset. Back to the 'Liability Order'. If this is granted, then it actually makes the debt legal. So, it follows that without a 'Liability Order', the debt is not legal, mmmmm . So, how come the Goverment can put both an NRP, and a PWC, through so much crap without the debt actually being fully legal ?. Simple, they incorporate everything within the Child Support Act 1991, and Family Law. Knowing full well, that it will just confuse the hell out of anyone, even solicitors.

Even in the application for the 'Liability Order', it instructs the Judge / Sheriff. That "under Section 33 of the Child Support Act 1991, the validity of the maintenance assessment may not be questioned", and "The sheriff must make the Liability Order if satisfied that the payments in question have become payable, and have not been payed". How's that from British Justice ???.

Basically, that takes away your right to defence. Which is a breach of your civil rights as a citizen of the UK. Also a breach of the constitution of the UK. It's basically the Government saying sod the law, sod your position as a sheriff, do as you're told. The consitution states that any person having to apear in court for any reason, must be given the right to a defence. So, obviously the UK Government think nothing of it's own constitution.

A recent court case regarding CSA, and how they deal with assessments came up with a rather suprising outcome. It turns out that CSA have no legal "Duty Of Care" to make sure that their assessments are correct. That was actually a case of a PWC, taking the CSA to court. For not paying her enough money. Don't you just love being British, lmfao.

Last September, I wrote to CSA and asked for all information they had on my under the 'Freedom of Information Act' (FIO). They have 40 !!!! days from the date of the letter you send, to reply to you with all of your data. Not 40 working days, actually 40 days. Needless to say, it took rather longer than 40 days for mine to arrive, this is a breach of law. I recieved no letter to say they would take longer or anything like that. It took around 91 days for mine to arrive. This stops people from mounting a proper defence of any complaints they have about their CSA account. Just as a matter of interest I received over 1300 seperate peices of paper, with information about my CSA account.

Needless to say, it takes some time getting through it all. You don't get it all in order, you have do sort that out yourself. What it does do, is let you know exactly what they have said about you. What decisions they have made, why they made them. It also gives you the oppertunity to see what they have left out. So, it's no surprise I have found some very interesting things out going through my files. I won't go into them now, but hopefully the solictor will find them of use. If they turn out to be of use, then I will ofcourse talk about them here, If you find yourself in the same position, then maybe it will help you out too.

Anyway, rant over for tonight. Hopefully all will go well tomorrow at the solicitors, and another little blow to the CSA will happen, on behalf of all NRP's & PWC's.

In other news, I'm off to Liverpool for the weekend on Friday. Heading down there for a bit of rave @ Circus on Friday night. I'll speak a bit more about that tomorrow as well. Till then, here's a nice wee vid to get your feet tapping. It's The Brighton Port Authority (BPA), He's Frank (Washing Up) Featuring Iggy Pop. Rave safe kiddiewinks

I couldn't help but giggle when he fluffed his oath. It was as if he was thinking 'just do it now dude'. 'Never mind with all the legal crap, just make me President'. Listening to his speech, and hearng the 2 million plus crowd cheer. I could not help but think of the South Park 'election' episode. "Change, Change. Change". " Yes We Can, Yes We Can", "Awesome, Awesome. Obviously done in a South Park styleeeee

So much for the seperation of State, and Church in the U.S. Obama made quite a few references to both, in the same sentence. In the same breath, and in turn meaning the same thing. This should be worrying for everyone. No one in his position should be using 'Faith' to guide him on 'Political' decisions.

The Americans are a strange breed indeed. I don't mean that in a bad way. Well, not entirely in a bad way, . I have some very good personel friends, who hail from that part of the world. I feel Obama just got elected on the fact the he is African/American. Anyone with an ounce of sense, knows that for all his retoric during the election campaign. His policies just don't stand up under scrutiny. I hope I am proved wrong in that matter. Remember, when America sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold. As is happening now with the global economy.

This current economic climate started with Americans, and will end with the Americans. For all his puffing and blowing. he now finds himself in the hot seat. He can no longer blame Bush, for anything. He is the man now, the man who has to make good on all of his promises.

Sure, he can't fix things over night. However, he can get a grip of the financial institutions, that have caused all this econimic trouble. In reality, nothing much has been done so far to sort all of this out. Apart from here in the UK. Even then, the banks just ignore what the Government want them to do. Dispite the Government (us the public) owning a hell of a lot of the banks concerned.

I wish Obama well in his term of office. I hope he comes through on all of his promises. However, I can't condone his desire to talk to terrorists. As a former soldier who spent a total of nearly five years of his life in actual combat. I have learned that it does no good to talk to terrorists. They only keep demanding things, until they get what they wanted in the first place. Once you concede to talking to one group of terrorists. Then the door way is open to all terrorists getting what they want.

Hopefully, it is a new beginning. Hopefully Obama can deliver, what we all hope he can. America leads the world, America calls all the shots. Wether we like it or not. So, Hail To The Chief.

 Comments

Been Busy

Sorry I haven't posted anything of late. I'll sit down and give an update about CSA, and other things soon.

 Comments

CSA

So, I turned 44 years of age at the age of last week. Now, age doesn't bother me at all, and I've never been a fan of Birthdays. Well, that's not exactly true, I've never been a fan of my own Birthday. It's not a case of fighting getting older, or hating it etc. I just don't like all the fuss people make about it.

Having said that, I don't mind making a fuss of others on thier Birthdays. I know, what am I like eh !!. Same goes for Christmas, I hate all the fuss about it. I think people just go to much over board on these occasions.

Now that I'm finaly getting my financies sorted out. This, after Glasgow City Council finaly granted 100% disregard for War Pensions, and I get housing benefit. I have been able to have a few quid in my pocket at the end of the month. As we all know, our Government doesn't like anyone to have a ny soare cash in their pockets.

So, low and behold. I get contacted by the one and only Child Support Agency (CSA). Let me say right from the start, that I am all in favour for absent parents paying child support. I have paid child supportfor 14 years, on and off. The off times have been when the parent with care has had a full time job, and hasn't been a drain on Government monies.

Would you believe that by sheer coincidence (NOT). I apparently have to pay the exact same amount of child support that I have just saved from getting housing benefit. I also find it no coincidence that this assessment comes along just before some of the CSA rules are about to change in October.

If anyone has had any dealings with the CSA ?. Then you will know that it is infact, not there to support the children involved. Despite what the public at general believe. It is actually there to save the Government money. This is done by forcing all paretns with care, that are on any benefit to use the CSA. This changes in October of this year.

So, the CSA chases down the easy people to get at. They then burst into their lives and ruin it. I know this all too well myself. Because a few years ago (when I was working), the CSA caused me to go bankrupt. They took so much money off me, that despite working over 70 hours per week. After payng bills etc; I was left with £20.00 to live on for the week. I was married at the time. So, as you can imagine, this didn't go down too well. This also caused me to have a mental breakdown, leading to me having to give up work. Inturn, this lead to end of my marriage. Well done the CSA !!!

Now let me go back to how the CSA work. As I mentioned, they force parents with care, who are on benefits to use them. If they don't use the CSA, then they have their benefits cut. These are also the cases that the CSA pursue the most. The reason for this, is that when they get the child support money, only £10.00 of it goes to the parent with care. The rest of it goes to the Government, to pay for which ever benefit the parent with care is on. Now, I ask you, how is that support for a child ?.

There are two different payment scales for the CSA. The old Scheme, and the new scheme. The old sheme offers the Government more money. That's why not many people are on it. On the other hand, the new scheme, means that parents without care don't have to pay so much. For instance, in my case which just so happens to the old scheme. I pay 10 times !!!, the amount I would with the new scheme

So, for instance. If I was paying over £120.00 per week, for one child. Only £10.00 was going to my ex, and £110.00 was going the treasury. How on Earth can they be allowed to get away with this ?. Simple, they make it law, they make it an offence not to pay it, they make all the rules to suit the CSA.

As a parent without care, you have no rights what so ever. You can have your bank accounts frozen, your passport, driving licence taken from you, you could even face a prison term. If you don't co-operate with the CSA in handing your money over to them.

What happens if you believe the child in question is not yours ?. Well nothing good I can tell you that. As I mentioned before, the CSA have all the rules, and law on thier side. If you make the mistakew of having your name on the Birth certificate (you didn't have any doubts then, did you). The you are well and truely up a creek when it comes the CSA. They put the burden of proof on you. How can you prove this when you don't even know where your former partner lives. The CSA won't help you out on that. Your ex won't help you out on it ether. Why would they, when it could mean loosing benefits.

So, it looks like they are going to try and bury me again. I think I must just let them this time. They can take my money from my cold dead hands. Don't be fold people. The Child Suppost Agency, has nothing to with support for a child. It's financial support for the Government. They raised 1.4 Billion pounds last year, for the Government. Think about that folks, 1.4 Billion pounds raised for our Government form absent parents. That means we saved them that amount on paying out benefits.

Why not make child support easy. The Government has put a price on raising a child. It's called child benefit, why not make absent parents pay the child benefit for their children ?. They won't do that, and here's why. It would mean the Government would earn as much money from it. Simple as that.

The Government place the amount of £18.80 a week for your oldest child, and £12.55 a week for each of your other children. Now, wouldn't that stop all the heart ache, trouble, miserry that the CSA causes. Everytime they crush some poor unfortunate, and screw them for every penny they have.

On a lighter note, and back to Birthdays. It's my sons 20th tomorrow, so I'll be going through to visit him tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it, as I haven't seen him for a couple of months.

It appears that Glasgow City Council, are finaly going to disregard 100% of War Pensions, recieved by Veterans when calculating Housing Benefit, and Coucil Tax. This is great move by Glasgow City Council. Although, they haven't said when this is going to start happening.

It is shocking to know that only two, out of 32 councils in Scotland fail to provide 100% disregard (Glasgow City Council being one of them). In England , and Wales it is only two out of 410 Councils that fail to provide 100% disregard.

Why are there only four Councils, in the whole of Britian not disregarding War Pensions ?. Very simply, they want to save money

Before this announcement, they would only disregard £10.00 of any War Pension recieved by a Veteran. This means that almost all of the War pension recieved by the Veteran was regarded as income. This would lead to Veterans missing out on crucial Housing, and Coucil Tax benefits. Meaing they would have to pay almost full Council Tax, and rent. This inturn keeps most War Pensioners below the poverty line.

Why have Glasgow City Council made this decision ?. It seems that it wasn't the work of Lord Provost Bob Winter. Who was the man who made the announcement. Rather more to do with, SNP Councillor Billy McAllister. Who made a speech for the motion of disregarding 100% of War Pensions. In that speech Councillor McAllister said.

". Glasgow stands almost alone, in treating its returning Veterans so badly. In earlier wars, returning Veterans were promised ?homes fit for heroes?. Now the promise is ?homes fit for heroes ? as long as you?re not a Glaswegian?. Our boys are being treated differently from the rest of the country".

For me, that just about sums it up. It seems that nowadays, a returning Veteran, is worth nothing. Despite all the rubbish, and false plaudits thet the Government, and Coucils say in the press.

Anyway, at least we are heading in the right direction. Except the fact that they haven't mentioned when this is going to start happening. I have just been assessed, and they have only disregarded only £10.00 of my War Pension, as usual. This means I have to full rent.

Just one other point before I move onto other things. Incase people are not aware of this, you can recieve Coucil Tax exemption. If you suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Now, it is not easy to get, and ofcourse you have to have the relivant medical back up for it. But, if you are a Veteran, or anyone who is suffering form PTSD. Then you may think about applying for it. It must impact on your everyday life, and I will say right now. They will try to knock you back for it time and time again. However, it is worth sticking to your guns, and just keep appealing, if they turn you down.

Glastonbury

I wasn't at Glastonbury, and have never been to it. I don't think my old bones could handle it there for four or five days. But, I have to say, it is seems to be one of the most entertaining festivals there is anywhere in the world. With maybe the Burning Man festival in the USA, coming a close second. This year the weather held out for all the punters there, which is good. They have had it rough with the weather over the last few years.

Friday night saw Kings of Leon take the Pyramid stage by storm. A great set by this much under appreaciated band. I won't even mention Amy Winehouse. What a complete waste of talent that woman is. If you saw her performance then you will know what I mean. She can do far better than that efftort.

There was ofcourse the drama about Jay-Z headling the Pyramid stage on Saturday night. When I say drama, it was more like a storm in a tea cup. Atter all it was that idiot Noel Gallagher, that started the ball rolling by saying "we don't want Rap/Hip-Hop, at Glastonbury".

What a complete dickhead that man is. Who on earth does he think he is ?, he is a spent talent. Believe me, I use the word talent in it's loosest context. Most of his melodies, riffs have been nicked from the Beatles, and the like.

So, Jay-Z came on stage and done Wonderwall. Well done Jay-Z, he didn't lower himself into Gallagher's little world. He then went on to perform in what seems to be the biggest crowd the Pyramid stage has ever seen.

The Sunday teatime slot, fell to Nail Diamond. Which he and the crowd thoroughly enjoyed. Sunday night was the turn of The Verve, on the Pyramid stage. It was a complete joy to watch these guys give a completly outstanding perfomance.

The BBC coverage of Glasto was ok. Ok, is not good enough I have to say. It has been dramaticaly cut back it seems. Especially on the red button choices. For the last few years, this has been what makes Glasto worth watching, if you are not able to actually go there. The ability to choose what you want to see via the red button choices. Sort it out BBC !!!!

Wimbledon

Well, we're in the last week of Wimbledon. Murray is still in, at the moment. I watched his game the other night, against Richard Gasquet. I have to say, I haven't watch a tennis match, as entertaining as that for many a year. The question is, is Murray up to the task ?. For me, the answer is no.

He was extremely lucky the other night to win his match. Although, it was an amazing effort by Murray to come back from two sets down. It's this drop shot he seems to soo fond of that worries me most. At times he missed shots that my thirteen year old niece could have got.

I admire his passion, and spirit. So I would like to wish Murray well against Rafael Nadal today. Who knows, Murray just might make it to the semi's .

Till next time kiddiewinks..........

So, what's that all about ?, I hear you ask. Well, I could go off on one of my "It's all a PR stunt, by the Government" routines, but I won't. The reason I won't, is because I am a Veteran myself. Ok, I will but not just now. Anyway, back to my point. What's that all about ?. First of all, you have to ask. What is a Veteran?. Now, people would usually reply to that by saying someone who served during the First, or Second World Wars. Having a picture of an older gentleman, medals attached to his blazer, and wearing a berret. Marching past the Cenotaph, in their minds.

This is true ofcourse, but being a Veteran has change over the last few years. This is the official classification of a Veteran.

"A Veteran is anyone who has served in HM Armed Forces at any time (including National Servicemen and Reservists), irrespective of length of service."

So, it actually means anyone who has served in H.M.Forces, including those that serve now. I'll come back to this point later. What is Veterans day about ?. The official line is.

"Veterans Day is both a celebration of the contribution made by all those who have served in the Armed Forces, and a means of raising public awareness of veterans issues."

What's the difference between Veterans Day, and Rememberance Sunday ?. Again, here's the official line.

"The focus of Veterans Day is on celebrating both the past, and the continuing contributions of Veterans living in our communities today. The intention is that Veterans Day will become as familiar and respected as Remembrance Sunday, which remembers, and honours those who died serving their country."

That's all well, and good. But I'd like to take you back to what Veterans Day is all about. The official line is to celebrate the contribution made, by those that have served. Also apparently to raise awareness of Veterans issues. Let's think about that for a moment.

As we all know (time for that rant of mine), our forces have been in combat since 2001. Longer than most campaigns undertaken by H.M. Forces previously. With the obvious exception of Northern Ireland. But, the current campaigns are not Northern Ireland, they are a completely different beast all together. Public opinion hasn't been the greatest, towards our Government, and forces being involved with these campaigns in Iraq, and Afghanistan. Infact, I find it shocking that people, cannot differenciate between the Government, and our forces doing their job.

So what do the Government come up with, to try and rally the public behind our forces ?, yes, Veterans Day. Don't get me wrong, I think it's an excellent idea. I believe our Veterans should be treated with the utmost respect. Much in the same way the United States treats their Veterans.

Unfortunately, this is not the case here. I strongly believe it's just a PR stunt by our illustrious leaders, that are in power at the moment. Sadly, it hasn't worked, not only for raising awareness of Veterans issues. Also for celebrating the contribution that our Veterans have made to safety, and security of this United Kingdom.

In truth, the Government don't give a toss about our Veterans. I know that for a fact, being a Veteran myself. Not only our older Veterans, but our younger Veterans of today. It's the Government that deal with Veteran issues, not the public. It's themselves that have to be more aware of the plight of Veterans.

Our Government does not do enough for our Veterans. I'm not talking about myself here, I'm talking about those that can't fight for themselves anymore. They just get left to their own devices by our Government. At any one time, there are over 1,000 ex forces living on the streets of London. If that's what it is like in London ?, then what is like in the rest of our cities ?. That's just homelessness. What about those that are living in poverty ?, living with mental health problems ?, the ones that have commited suicide ?, their families that have been left to deal with the aftermath ?. These are the real Veteran issues.

Sure, some Veterans are entitled to a War Pension, under the War Pensions Scheme (injuries, ill health, death, caused by, or during service, and claimed before 06th April 2005). Then, they changed to the new Armed Forces Compensation Scheme ( injury, ill health or death is caused by service on or after 06th April 2005). I'm sure you have all heard of the stories of the tiny amounts of compensation that H.M. Forces have received, for injuries etc: Compare that to the silly amounts of compensation that some money grabber got for stubbing their thumb in an office at an RAF base.

Again, this is a real Veterans issue. I don't see the Government sorting that out. I don't see our Government, treating our Veterans with the respect that they hope the public will give our Veterans. As I've said, to me it's a PR stunt. Why a PR stunt ?, simple. It's to try and give the 'public' more pride in our forces. Inturn, this will hopefully take away from the political side of our forces fighting, and dying in far off lands.

The Government do not spend millions on promoting Veterans Day. They don't even publicise it very much. Infact, it's almost all left to which ever city is hosting the main events. This year it is Blackpool, why Blackpool ?. That's an easy one to answer. It's where the 'Service Personnel and Veterans Agency' (SPVA), is based. There are events being held all over the country, but again this is left to those orginising, to publicise it.

If we are going to have a Veterans Day ?, then let's do it properly. Let's give our Veterans the respect they deserve. Not just from the public, but especially from our Government. Let's see the Government look after our Veterans, instead of using them for publicity. We all know Veterans, wether it be ourselves, family, friends, or even friends of friends. Veterans do not want medals, don't want everything handed to them, they just want a little respect for what they have done, and continue to do for OUR country. If you are in a city or village that is celebrating Veterans Day ?. Take part in it, show our Veterans that you appreciate them. Shake their hands, pat them on the back, and say thank you. That's all it takes folks.

Yes, it was a couple of weeks ago. It takes me longer to recover from such things. Now that I am about to hit forty four years of age . I have to say, despite all the reservations everyone had about the line up. It was one hell of a weekend.

Now that this years event is over and done with. We can all look forward to nexts years event. Which takes place on the 13th / 14th June 2009, at Dores, Inverness. The big difference about next year, is the fact that AEG (the worlds second largest event/ artist promoters) have a controling share in Rockness.

What does this mean for the event?. Well, it means that the guys that run the event, can now finaly match the pulling power of the likes of T in the park. As I understand it, AEG are happy for the guys that have been running it. To keep doing what they have been doing. So hopefully it won't get much bigger than it all ready is. 35,000 people each day, over the weekend is more than enough. Maybe put an extra day onto it, but no more than 35,000 a day.

Early Bird tickets go on sale tomorrow, for next years event. They are even doing a down payment scheme for this. All you do is pay £30.00, with a small booking fee. Then you have six months to pay the remaining ballance off in one go. No doubt there will be another booking fee added on at that stage. This will run until the end of September 2008, but may finish early if all the Early Bird tickets go before then.

Personally, I think that is a good idea. Considering it will cost you £115.00 for weekend tickets, plus camping. It gives people that chance to book their tickets, and save for the rest. This being the festival season, people don't have the spare cash to keep forking out at the moment.

So, it won't be long until people start to guess who will be appearing at next years event. Hopefully the promoters, will get their act together better than they did this year. They were terrible at announcing acts that would be playing this year. Most people found out themselves, by looking at artists Myspace pages to see if they were playing.

Anyway, I'm sure it will be another great weekend. I keep saying to myself that I'm getting too old for such events. Then I find myself buying tickets for them again, and again. Maybe next year will be my last, maybe it won't. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

I will ofcourse return to this topic over the next year. Here's some links for Rockness, and some pictures from this year event.
